MICR 271 Introduction to Microbiology Units: 3.00
An introduction to the biology of microbes, with a focus on bacteria and viruses. This overview of the biological features of these microorganisms will highlight the roles that they play in the environment, how they benefit human health, and how they contribute to infectious diseases.

Course Learning Outcomes:
- Analyze information pertaining to a specific organism to evaluate the impact of microbial replication, gene expression and antibiotic resistance of the microorganism in health, disease or the environment.
- Collaboratively demonstrate a working knowledge of microbe characteristics that relate to their survival by working effectively with peers.
- Collaboratively demonstrate a working knowledge of microbe characteristics that relate to their survival and ability to cause infections by working effectively with peers.
- Employ effective peer review in a small group setting in order to collaboratively develop a presentation describing the properties and significance of a microbial pathogen.
