The Queen’s community is remembering Heidi Scott, a graduate student in the Department of Biomedical and Molecular Sciences, who passed away on June 5 at the age of 27. She was pursuing her Masters in Virology at Queen’s University and had planned to begin a PhD program this fall. She was supervised by Drs. Che Colpitts and Katrina Gee and was a key contributor to both of their research groups, and she was an excellent mentor to undergraduate students. She also volunteered with Camp Outlook and performed with the Queen’s Orchestra.

Prior to coming to Canada, Heidi lived in New Zealand and the United States. She completed high school at Kingston Collegiate and Vocational Institute (KCVI) and earned her undergraduate degree from Oberlin College in Ohio. She loved traveling and the outdoors and was a gifted musician and artist who used her creative talents to raise funds for Kingston 4 Paws Service Dogs.

She will be dearly missed by her parents, Chris and Neal, her sister Nicole, extended family, friends, co-workers, and her dog, Bruno.

Queen’s University and Heidi’s family have established an endowed graduate scholarship——in her memory, and to honour her passion for biomedical science and research. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Isabel Bader Performing Arts Centre on July 19 at 10:00 a.m.
